Does your body produce Vitamin C? Nope!

Does your body store it for future use? Nope again.

So we have to make sure we are getting an optimal amount on a daily basis.

We’ve all heard that Vitamin C is important but do you know why? Here’s a brief explanation of what it does for us.

*it is vital for growth and repair of all the tissues in the body

*it helps the body make collagen, which is the protein used to make skin, cartilage, tendons, ligaments and blood vessels

            *it’s needed to heal wounds

*it helps repair and maintain bones and teeth

            * it aids in iron absorption (so you aren’t tired or anemic)

            * it’s an antioxidant so it helps protect cells from free radical damage (free radicals are the bad guys in the body that need to be eliminated every day)

            *strengthens immune system

As you can see, it plays a pretty important role! But since our bodies don’t store it, how can we make sure we get enough?

Here are some foods that are high in Vitamin C-

            Guava

            Oranges

            Red and green peppers

            Kale

            Kiwi

            Broccoli

            Brussel sprouts

            Grapefuit

            Strawberries

It’s very hard to get too much Vitamin C and if you do, it will not hurt you. Because it is water soluble, the excess will be eliminated and you can start over the next day.

Most people don’t get enough C from their foods so a supplement is a good way to ensure adequate amounts. As with any supplement, you need to be careful where you get it. Many grocery store brands and health food stores carry supplements that have a lot of synthetic additives. I have a few researched and trusted brands that I am happy to share with you.
